The International Congress on Thermal Stresses (ICTS) is a premier biennial global event dedicated to the study of thermal stresses and their effect on materials and structures, a crucial aspect for the design, manufacturing, and reliability of next-generation structures and systems. This distinguished congress brings together internationally recognized experts and young researchers from academia, industry, and research institutions to exchange ideas, explore emerging applications, and foster new collaborations in this continually evolving field.
Carrying forward its successful legacy across various international locations—Hamamatsu, Japan (1995); Rochester, USA (1997); Cracow, Poland (1999); Osaka, Japan (2001); Blacksburg, USA (2003); Vienna, Austria (2005); Taipei, Taiwan (2007); Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, USA (2009); Budapest, Hungary (2011); Nanjing, P.R. China (2013); Salerno, Italy (2016); Hangzhou, P.R. China (2019); Luleå, Sweden (2023); and Hong Kong SAR, China (2025)—the Department of Applied Mechanics at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is honoured to host this prestigious event in India for the first time from December 15 to 18, 2027.
ICTS is proudly affiliated with the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM), and the Congress is organized in cooperation with the Journal of Thermal Stresses.
Established in 1961 as an Institution of National Importance, the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi has grown into one of India's leading institutions for engineering, physical sciences, social sciences, and interdisciplinary research, comprising over 30 Departments, Centres, and Schools. Located in the heart of New Delhi, IIT Delhi is internationally recognized for excellence in education, innovation, and research, and continues to attract outstanding students and scholars from across the world. Today, the Institute hosts a vibrant academic community of more than 13,000 students enrolled in undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes, supported by over 650 faculty members across diverse disciplines.
The Department of Applied Mechanics is among the oldest departments at IIT Delhi and has earned a distinguished reputation in theoretical, computational, and experimental solid and fluid mechanics, as well as multidisciplinary engineering research. The department offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes, along with specialized programmes in Naval Construction. Its research activities span a broad spectrum of areas, including aerodynamics and acoustics, biomechanics and soft robotics, multifunctional materials and structures, turbulence and environmental flows, and machine-learning-assisted mechanics.
Hear from internationally acclaimed researchers and academicians advancing the field of thermal stresses, mechanics, and engineering.

Key milestones for ICTS 2027 — from abstract submission to the closing ceremony.
From abstract to published paper — how your work makes it into the ICTS 2027 proceedings.
Authors who wish to contribute a paper are requested to submit a one-page (about 500 words) abstract online. Once the abstract is accepted, authors may submit an 8-page full paper for publication in the conference proceedings.
It is planned to publish the peer-reviewed and selected papers of conference as proceedings with Springer. For detailed instructions for author and editors of conference proceedings, kindly visit the following link: https://www.springer.com/us/authors-editors/conference-proceedings.
Select papers from the conference will be published by Springer as a proceedings book volume. Springer will conduct quality checks on the accepted papers and only papers that pass these checks will be published.
Springer Nature does not charge any money for publication of Non-Open Access content. Abstracts/extended abstracts and short papers (less than 4 pages) are not considered for publication.

ICTS 2027 will highlight cutting-edge developments across thermal stresses, with particular focus on the following, but not limited to them:
ICTS has a proud tradition spanning three decades. Here are the previous editions of the Congress on Thermal Stresses.
IIT Delhi is located in Hauz Khas, South Delhi — a central, well-connected part of India's capital. It is approximately 10 km from New Delhi Railway Station, 15 km from Hazrat Nizamuddin Station, and about 15 km from Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Delhi Metro is one of the most convenient ways to reach IIT Delhi. The nearest station is Hauz Khas (Yellow Line), about 2 km from campus. Auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws are readily available from the station to the IIT Delhi Main Gate.
Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) is well connected globally. Take a prepaid taxi or app-based cab (Ola/Uber) directly to IIT Delhi (~15 km, 30–40 min). Alternatively, take the Airport Metro Express to New Delhi Station, then change to the Yellow Line towards HUDA City Centre and exit at Hauz Khas.
All foreign nationals entering India must hold a valid passport with a valid Indian visa from an Indian Mission/Post. eVisa (limited categories) is also available through the official portal.
